Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Sidney Museum and Archives! Volunteers are the backbone of everything we do here at the museum, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that we couldn’t keep our doors open with you.

Your work as a volunteer can be flexible, and tailored to your specific interests. However, typical work as a volunteer can be broken down into the categories below. If any of these interest you, fill out a volunteer form and drop off at the museum or email it to [email protected]. We will then determine if there is a suitable placement and inform you of next steps to take in your volunteering journey.

Front-of-House Team

Located at our front desk, the front-of-house volunteers greet and introduce visitors to recent exhibits, answer basic visitor questions and collects information from visitors for the statistic book.

Shifts are three hours long during museum hours, offered from 10:00am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Projects Team

This team takes on a variety of projects to keep our museum looking its best! From installing exhibits or building temporary walls, to changing lightbulbs and painting cases, this team holds a range of skill levels and specialties.
Project meetings typically take place once per month, at a time determined by the Executive Director, though all members are encouraged to attend our informal coffee mornings on Wednesdays at 10:00am. Expected hours are flexible and depend on upcoming projects.

Curatorial Team

A limited number of volunteers support staff-led curatorial projects such as artifact accessioning, photography, scanning, research, answering reference questions and data entry. These shifts take place seven days a week, 10:00am to 4:00pm.

High School Student Volunteers

These volunteers work directly under the supervision of staff and regular volunteers in a variety of departments including Reception, Curatorial, Archives, and more. If you are interested in volunteering please email [email protected] and let us know your interests!
